Q: Can I transfer my child to another school?
A: Yes, but you must transfer your child before

Q: My child has special needs. How do I get help from the Kanehsatà:ke Education Centre?
A: High Cost Special Needs assistance has special requirements. For students attending community schools, there is local funding to provide for assessments to determine your child’s needs.
For students attending provincial schools, the schools must provide a letter to the KEC, who in turn, will forward the request to Indian Affairs. INAC is currently handling provincial requests for assessments and tutoring.
For more information, contact the Special Needs Coordinator, Carrie Brisson
at (450) 479-8358, ext. 228.

Q: My child is having difficulties at school. Who do I contact?
A: For academic difficulties, first talk to your child’s
home room or subject teacher. They will provide you with information on what
the school can offer, such as after school tutoring. They can also refer you
to the Principal and the Special Needs Coordinator who will meet and discuss
ideas for home and school support. If it is of a social or behavioural nature,
the Principal of your school can provide information on available and confidential
guidance counseling.

Q: Are there deadlines to fill out application forms for primary and secondary funding assistance forms?
A: Yes, it is important for parents or guardians to fill
out the forms for assistance before May 25th, if
your child attends any school outside Kanehsatà:ke. This helps the
KEC to plan transportation routes and prepare cheques for books and supplies
and gym clothing allowances in time for school. Filling out forms late will
delay your cheque.
